Cesarean Section Rehabilitation

In France and other European countries all most partum women are given 8-12 sessions of post-partum physical therapy. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case here in the United States.  Although the abdominal muscles are not actually cut during a C Section, the stretching and procedure itself do cause a lot of scar tissue formation.  Commonly after other surgeries, patients are sent for post-surgical rehabilitation and it is well known that these patients often heal and return to their previous level of function faster.  This type of surgery is no different. Manual therapy and education on scar tissue will increase soft tissue mobility and decrease any pain, discomfort or numbness.  Your physical therapist will educate you on how to safely mobilize your own scar as well as educate you on how to safely introduce activities and exercise back into your daily life.
