Pediatric Bladder and Bowel Program
Is your child suffering from urinary incontinence, urinary frequency, constipation, pelvic/abdominal pain, and bed-wetting? At ITR Physical Therapy we are passionate about pelvic health through the continuum of the lifespan. Pediatric bladder and bowel dysfunction can persist into adulthood. Therefore, it is imperative to address these issues as soon as they arise.
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), 10% of children ages 5 and over are leaking urine during the day. On top of this 30% of 4 year-olds experience bed-wetting. Constipation is another major issue affecting children is and accounts for nearly 5% of pediatric office visits. Moreover, constipation can also contribute to urinary leakage and bed-wetting. Children who experience anxiety-causing events may be at an even higher risk of developing urinary incontinence. This adds significant stress and anxiety for children.
Every year, millions of children suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction: the inability to control the muscles that allow you to have normal bowel movements and urination. Most children do not get the help they need. These dysfunctional pelvic muscles are often the culprit in pediatric bowel and bladder disorders. Pelvic floor physical therapy can be a life-changing service to help children suffering from bowel and bladder dysfunction.
Our goal at ITR is to help children connect with their bodies using manual therapy, biofeedback, behavioral/diet modification, relaxation techniques, and stretching/strengthening of pelvic floor and surrounding muscles as appropriate. At ITR Physical Therapy, pediatric bowel and bladder dysfunction involves one-on-one sessions with a specially-trained therapist. End your child’s suffering through issues like urinary incontinence, urinary frequency, constipation, pelvic/abdominal pain, and bed-wetting.
