Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start pregnancy physical therapy?

You can start at any point during your pregnancy. Many women begin in the second trimester when pelvic pain or SI joint discomfort develops, but we also work with patients in the first trimester or late in pregnancy (even at 35+ weeks). The earlier you start, the more time we have to address issues and prepare your body for labor—but it’s never too late to benefit from care.

What happens during a pregnancy PT session at ITR?

Every session is one-on-one and lasts approximately one hour. Your physical therapist will assess your pain, mobility, and pelvic floor function, then create a personalized treatment plan. This may include manual therapy, gentle exercises, breathing techniques, and education on posture, movement, and labor preparation. You’ll leave each session with tools and strategies to use at home.

Does insurance cover pregnancy physical therapy?

Most insurance plans cover physical therapy for pregnancy-related conditions like pelvic pain, SI joint dysfunction, and back pain. We recommend calling your insurance provider to verify your benefits. Our team can provide the necessary documentation for reimbursement, and we’re happy to answer questions about coverage during your free phone consult.
